In the heart of the desert, a white palace appears out of nowhere, like a fleeting mirage. Located in Guazhou County, Gansu Province, the sculpture "Boundless" features a central "main hall" surrounded by four "watchtowers." The design is inspired by the grand pavilions and towers depicted in the murals of the Tang Dynasty (618-907) found in the Mogao and Yulin Caves, home to an extensive collection of Buddhist art. Spanning 60 meters in length, 45 meters in width and 21 meters in height, "Boundless" was built using about 6,300 steel pipes of various lengths and around 30,000 connecting fasteners, blending historical elegance with modern engineering.
