The latest round of the conflict in the Middle East was triggered on October 7, 2023, when Hamas fighters raided a village and concert venue in southern Israel. Of the more than 200 hostages seized by Hamas on that day, 117 have so far been released and 35 have been confirmed dead. The fate of the others is unknown.
