This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). Over the past 75 years, the two countries have deepened their economic and cultural cooperation and enhanced their political relations through exchanges of high-level visits.

China and the DPRK established formal diplomatic relations on October 6, 1949. In November 1953, the two countries signed an agreement on economic and cultural cooperation. In July 1961, the two sides signed a treaty on friendship, cooperation, and mutual assistance.

China and the DPRK have consistently maintained their traditional friendship and cooperation, with their party and state leaders frequently in contact. From 1953 to 2024, Chinese leaders have visited the DPRK 38 times, while DPRK leaders have visited China 46 times.

Over the past 75 years, China has been the DPRK's primary trading partner. In 2023, the China-DPRK trade volume reached approximately $2.3 billion, with China's exports to the DPRK amounting to about $2 billion and its imports from the DPRK totaling $292 million.

China's major exports to the DPRK include crude oil, machinery, electronic products and consumer goods, while its main imports from the DPRK consist of steel, timber, mineral products and aquatic products.
