It's been a year since the latest round in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict erupted, on October 7, 2023.

Within weeks of the outbreak of fighting, CGTN established a production team, including film crews from Gaza, the West Bank and Israel, and charged it with documenting the suffering of the innocent victims. The result was the documentary, Caught in the Crossfire. Through working together the team, despite coming from different communities, formed a close bond, and as the fighting continued they resolved to carry on telling the world the stories of those caught up in the conflict. And so Caught in the Ceasefire and Caught Between Life and Death followed, giving a voice to more people who have lost loved ones, become refugees and been taken hostage. The team also filmed some of those who are struggling against the odds to help; ambulance drivers, doctors and anti-war activists.

Now, as the conflict approaches its first anniversary, we are releasing Caught in a Year of Darkness, reflecting how the Palestinian-Israeli conflict has escalated and spread. With the situation in the Middle East continuing to deteriorate, we want this documentary to serve as a call for peace.
