On October 7, 2023, the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, known as Hamas, launched numerous rockets into Israeli territory in a military operation called the "Al-Aqsa Flood." In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promptly declared that Israel was in a state of war. A new round of conflict between Israel and Palestine began, and it has now been exactly one year since the escalation.

More than 41,909 people in Gaza have been killed, according to the Health Ministry in the enclave on October 7. A CGTN stringer documented ten survival stories of ordinary people enduring relentless war over the past year, capturing moments that reflect both their strength and vulnerability.
