Wang Xinyu of China defeated Caroline Dolehide of the U.S. 6-4, 6-0 in the women's singles first-round match at the Wuhan Open in Wuhan, central China's Hubei province, on Monday.
The first set was tied 1-1 before Wang scored a break in the third game and then held to lead 3-1. She had the chance to convert another break point in the seventh game but missed it. Dolehide wasted a similar opportunity in the eighth. She held in Game 9 to keep the set alive, but for only another game before Wang ended with sharp second serves.
Wang was unstoppable in the second set by scoring three straight break points and holding in two of her own serve games to lead 5-0. She then began the sixth with an ace and finished a love game to win the match.

Home player Yuan Yue progressed to the second round as well after coming back to knock out Clara Burel of France 1-6, 6-4, 6-2. She had a poor start of allowing six consecutive games between the fourth in the first set and the second in the second set, including three break points.
Yuan bounced back after trailing by two games in the second set. She first scored a break and then held to tie the set 2-2. Then she converted a significant break point in the ninth to lead for the first time in the match before taking the set 6-4.
Yuan continued to attack with aggression in the third set, scoring a break in the third game to lead 3-1. Burel suffered another break in the sixth and allowed another two games in a row, losing her first match against Yuan.
In the women's doubles division, Tang Qianhui and Wang Xiyu of China beat Kamilla Rakhimova of Russia and Jaqueline Cristian of Romania 6-2, 6-1 to reach the second round.
