Novak Djokovic became the first player to reach 10 quarter-finals at the Shanghai Masters, after defeating Roman Safiullin in straight sets on Wednesday.
The 37-year-old, a four-time champion in the city, started with explosive energy, showcasing his fine form with a beautifully executed drop shot near the net.
He then secured the first 6-3, finishing it off in style with a powerful ace. Continuing the dominance, Djokovic maintained control in the second, winning 6-2 when Safiullin's return fell out of bounds when trying to starve off match point. This victory marks Djokovic's 37th win at the tournament, further extending his own record as he continues his pursuit of a 100th tour-level title.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion has yet to drop a single set in Shanghai and will next face Czech teenager Jakub Mensik for a spot in the final four.
"Very close to ten (out of ten), I think both last night's match and tonight, (have) been maybe some of the best matches I've played in a while. So I'm just enjoying myself on the court. When you play well, obviously when you feel good, you know, there's a lot of joy of striking a tennis ball on the court. So these kinds of matches, these kind of sensations that I have on the court are one of the greatest reasons why I still keep on playing, keep on competing, because I really...I believe I can play on a very high level now," Djokovic said.
"It's a matter of keeping that consistency and also having a good time off the court. You know, the Chinese fans are incredible. I mean, such passion and devotion to their favorite players. And this tournament has over the years been remarkable," he added.

Belgian David Goffin got past second seeded German Alexander Zverev. The world no. 66 quickly established control in the match, taking the first set 6-4 after Zverev's return hit the net.
Although Zverev opened the second with a love game, Goffin quickly put him on the defensive. The 33-year-old showcased his incredible skills during an intense exchange of volleys with a brilliant forehand that drew huge cheers from the Shanghai crowd.
And though Zverev managed to level the score at 5-5, Goffin maintained his composure under pressure and he ultimately sealed the match 6-love, when Zverev's return sailed out of bounds, finishing the frame 7-5.
This marks Goffin's first appearance in the quarter-finals of an ATP Masters 1000 event since 2021. He will now face seventh seed Taylor Fritz for a spot in the semi-finals.
