Defending champions China were shocked by Japan 3-1 in the women's team final at the Asian Table Tennis Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan, on Wednesday.
World number four Wang Yidi started well and claimed the opening game 11-7 against Miwa Harimoto. The duo split the first four frames before Wang took a 9-8 lead in the decider. But Harimoto won the next three points to secure a thrilling victory 11-9, which gave Japan a 1-0 lead.
In the second match, world number one Sun Yingsha took a 2-0 lead against Mima Ito. Sun then wrapped up the third game 11-5 to help China level the overall score.
However, Miu Hirano beat China's Chen Xingtong 3-1 in the third match and Japan went in front again 2-1.
In the fourth, Sun won the first two games 11-9, 11-6 against Harimoto. But the 16-year-old forced a decider and took a 9-6 lead and went on to complete the comeback win 11-6 to help Japan lift the trophy.
