The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) said Thursday two of its members were wounded after Israeli forces fired at its positions in the country's south.

"This morning, two peacekeepers were injured after an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Merkava tank fired its weapon toward an observation tower at UNIFIL's headquarters in Naqoura, directly hitting it and causing them to fall," the UNIFIL said in a statement.

The Israeli military also hit two other positions of UN troops, said the UN forces, and it reminded "the IDF and all actors of their obligations to ensure the safety and security of UN personnel and property and to respect the inviolability of UN premises at all times."

There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military.
