China strongly denounces Israel's attack on positions of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), which resulted in injuries to two UN peacekeepers, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Friday.

Any deliberate attack on UN peacekeepers is a severe violation of international humanitarian law and UN Security Council Resolution 1701, and is absolutely unacceptable, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning told a press conference.

She said such actions must stop immediately.

China demands an investigation into the incident, accountability for those involved, and measures to prevent a recurrence, Mao said, adding that all parties to the conflict must ensure the safety of all UN personnel and assets, including those of UNIFIL.

China urges the parties involved, particularly Israel, to take immediate actions to de-escalate the situation, ensure the safety of UN peacekeepers, and prevent the conflict from further escalation or spiraling out of control, she said.
