China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) is well-prepared to hold the sixth-term chief executive election, scheduled for Sunday morning at the China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Commercial and Trade Service Platform Complex.

Macao SAR Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng on Saturday visited the polling station to inspect election preparations and heard a report from the Electoral Affairs Commission (EAC) for the Chief Executive Election.

Noting amendments were made to the Chief Executive Election Law last year to further implement the principle of "patriots administering Macao," Ho said that the upcoming election is especially significant, as it will reflect the results of the legislative amendments. He urged the EAC to make sure that all details in the election process are properly arranged.

Song Man Lei, president of the EAC, said that the commission has been actively preparing for the upcoming election and all arrangements are now ready to ensure smooth operations on election day.

The polling station will have 32 voting booths and 8 ballot boxes available for all 400 members of the Chief Executive Election Committee to cast their votes. Votes will be counted and announced immediately after voting.

Polling starts at 10 a.m. Sunday morning. Sam Hou Fai, who previously received 386 nominations from the Chief Executive Election Committee, is the only candidate running for election.

As prescribed by the Macao SAR Basic Law, the chief executive is elected by a broadly representative Chief Executive Election Committee and is then appointed by the Central People's Government. The chief executive serves a five-year term.
