Ho Iat Seng, chief executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), on Sunday extended his congratulations to Sam Hou Fai on being elected as Macao's chief executive-designate.

The election for the sixth-term chief executive of the Macao SAR was held on Sunday morning in accordance with the Basic Law of the Macao SAR and Macao's Chief Executive Election Law. Sam secured 394 out of 398 valid ballots, a significant majority.

Ho extended his heartfelt congratulations to Sam on his election and highlighted that the smooth and orderly conduct of the election exemplifies the implementation of the "One country, Two systems" principle, "Macao people administering Macao," and a high degree of autonomy in the region.

He also expressed gratitude to the chief executive election committee members for diligently fulfilling their duties and completing the mission of electing a sixth-term Chief Executive.

Ho emphasized that the requirements for the chief executive of the Macao SAR include patriotism, trust from the central authorities, governance competence and broad recognition within Macao society.

The chief executive expressed confidence that the next chief executive would effectively lead the sixth Macao SAR Government and its community, continuing to advance the practice of the "One Country, Two Systems" principle and promoting new developments for the Macao SAR's next phase of growth.

In accordance with the relevant provisions of the Basic Law of the Macao SAR and Macao's Chief Executive Election Law, Ho will submit a report and request to the central government to appoint Sam as the Macao SAR's sixth-term chief executive. The request will be submitted after the Court of Final Appeal officially confirms the final results of the election and the result announcement is published in the Macao SAR Gazette.
