Two pairs of giant pandas that resided at Zoo Atlanta in the U.S. arrived in Chengdu City, southwest China's Sichuan Province, on Sunday night, according to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding.
The pandas, Lun Lun, Yang Yang, and their twins Yalun and Xi Lun, were confirmed to be in good health by accompanying veterinarians. Under the escort of a veterinary and panda care team, they were successfully transported to the Chengdu Research Base and will undergo at least one month of quarantine.
Lun Lun and Yang Yang first arrived at Zoo Atlanta in 1999 under the China-U.S. cooperation project on giant panda protection. During their stay, they were well cared for and bred five litters, producing seven cubs.
Through the giant panda international cooperation project, the two countries have collaborated on areas such as panda reproduction, cub-rearing, behavioral training and preventive veterinary medicine. The partnership has led to active academic exchanges and significant achievements, playing a key role in advancing conservation research and fostering understanding and friendship between the people of both nations.
