In the Chinese Basketball Association, the Xinjiang Flying Tigers nearly blew a big lead at home against the Beikong Royal Fighters, but held on for a 114-111 win and a third-straight victory to open the new season.
QJ Peterson drained a three from way back and Xinjiang led 38-19 in the first quarter. The American guard added another in the second and Xinjiang were cruising with a 21 point lead.
But Beikong battled back with an 11-2 run. Grant Riller's deuce got them within 11 points before Xinjiang pulled away again and led 80-62 after one of Dedric Lawson's three triples, en route to a game-high 34 points.
But Beikong closed the gap again and Travis Trice's jumper had them down by 4. In the fourth quarter, Jin Xin made it 100-92 for Xinjiang with ten minutes to play. But Liao Sanning sliced in for a layup, tying the score at 105. Liao's free throw put Beikong ahead by one with two minutes left, before Xinjiang led again 110-108.
With five seconds to go, Meng Zikai missed a three and Xinjiang held on to win 114-111 for a third straight victory in the new season.
Elsewhere, Beijing got past Sichuan in a home victory 102-91, as veteran Fang Shuo goes into his 16th season for Beijing. But the game-high 31 points were claimed by Sichuan's newly signed Edmund Sumner. With the victory, Beijing remained unbeaten in the new season after three rounds. Meanwhile, Nanjing beat Ningbo, and Guangsha defeated Shandong.
