At the height of World War II, an American torpedo struck a Japanese cargo vessel carrying 1,816 British prisoners of war (POWs) in the East China Sea. Local Chinese fishermen bravely rescued more than 300 British POWs as Japanese soldiers desperately attempted to kill them. The documentary "The Sinking of the Lisbon Maru" highlights this piece of history that might have otherwise been forgotten over time. In a special interview, director Fang Li told CGTN anchor Xu Qinduo why he decided to make this documentary and discussed the ultimate significance of this tragic episode.
