Preparations for the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, October 20, 2024. /CFP
The global situation has become more volatile, and the recovery of the world economy has weakened. Where is the world headed? The BRICS countries seem to have the answer. As the 2024 BRICS summit approaches, a survey conducted by CGTN targeting global netizens shows that the vast majority of respondents hope the BRICS cooperation mechanism will inject more momentum into the struggling world economy and complex global governance.
BRICS was born out of the rising cooperation among emerging market economies and developing countries. After years of development, it has now formed a multi-level, multi-faceted and comprehensive cooperation framework. In recent years, BRICS has brought the benefits and opportunities of development to a wide range of developing countries through the establishment of the New Development Bank and contingency reserve arrangements.
In the survey, 92.87 percent of respondents expressed belief that this mechanism promotes cooperation among the Global South, while 94.2 percent felt that the influence of the BRICS cooperation mechanism is continuously expanding. A total of 94.1 percent stated that, as a multilateral cooperation mechanism comprised of emerging economies, BRICS countries can inject more momentum into the recovery of the world economy.
For a long time, the BRICS cooperation mechanism has actively practiced the spirit of openness, inclusiveness, cooperation and win-win outcomes, increasingly becoming an important force for promoting global cooperation and multilateralism. In this regard, 89.6 percent of respondents believe that the BRICS cooperation mechanism helps in building a more just, democratic and reasonable international order. A total of 91.65 percent of respondents believe that as the largest developing country in the world, China's development philosophy and experience provide important references for emerging market countries in achieving modernization.
This survey was published on CGTN's platforms in English, Spanish, Arabic, French and Russian. Within 24 hours, a total of 18,961 overseas netizens participated in the survey and shared their views.
