The Chinese Foreign Ministry on Monday urged Myanmar to thoroughly investigate the attack on the Chinese Consulate-General in Mandalay and improve the security of the Chinese embassy, consulate-general, projects and personnel in Myanmar.
Lin Jian, a spokesperson for the ministry, made the remarks at a daily press briefing in response to a related query.
On October 18, an office building facing the Chinese Consulate-General in Mandalay was hit by an explosion, causing no casualties but partially damaging the building, according to Lin.
"The Chinese side is deeply shocked by the attack and strongly condemns such an act," he said.
Lin said China has lodged serious representations with Myanmar and urged Myanmar to thoroughly investigate the attack and make every effort to arrest and punish the perpetrators in accordance with the law.
The Myanmar side said it has taken a series of measures and will fulfill its commitments and obligations under international law to assume the main responsibility for the security of Chinese personnel and institutions in Myanmar.
