Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Laurent Fabius, president of the Constitutional Council of France, in Beijing on Monday.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, noted that China-France relations have consistently developed to a high standard.
Both countries uphold independence, aligning with the global trend towards multipolarity, which contributes to world peace and stability, Wang said.
China firmly supports free trade and is committed to safeguarding the global trading system, he added.
Acknowledging that recent setbacks in economic and trade relations between China and the European Union are not in the interest of either side, Wang urged the EU to prioritize long-term and overall interests, seeking solutions to respective concerns through negotiation and consultation with China.
Fabius reaffirmed France's diplomatic tradition of upholding independence and its enduring friendship with China.
France has consistently opposed coercive measures and supports finding solutions through dialogue and consultation, he said.
The two sides also exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis and efforts to combat climate change.
