Tang sets Asian record again as China shine on final day of Swimming World Cup

The World Aquatics Swimming World Cup in Shanghai wrapped up on Sunday, with China winning six gold, 11 silver, and seven bronze medals.

On the final day of the short-course competition, Tang Qianting and Tang Muhan both snagged a gold medal. Tang clinched the gold with a new Asian record of 28.76 in the women's 50m breaststroke. 

It marked the third occasion this season that the 20-year-old Olympic silver medalist has rewritten the Asian record in this event. Siobhan Haughey of Hong Kong SAR finished third with a time of 29.74 seconds, one hundredth of a second behind Italian Benedetta Pilato.

In the women's 800m freestyle, China dominated the podium with Tang Muhan taking the top spot in 8:15.34, followed by her teammates Gao Weizhong and 16-year-old Kong Yaqi. Kong's bronze in the 800m freestyle added to her bronze in the women's 200m freestyle, where she also achieved a personal best.

World champion Qin Haiyang secured silver in the men's 200m breaststroke, ending the World Cup with two golds and one silver. Yu Yiting earned two silver medals in the women's 100m butterfly and 200m individual medley.

China's men's 100m freestyle Olympic champion Pan Zhanle ranked ninth in the 200m freestyle heats with a time of 1:44.13, narrowly missing the finals by 0.06 seconds.

French swimming sensation Leon Marchand continued his winning streak in the men's individual medley, claiming victory in the 400m medley on Sunday, in addition to his gold medals in the 100m and 200m events.
