Yunnan Province, located in southwest China, is home to some of the country's rare tropical rainforests. Its rich biodiversity makes Yunnan a popular destination for both wildlife enthusiasts and academic researchers. 

Dehong Prefecture, situated at the western edge of Yunnan, is a region filled with lush mountains and fertile valleys. With a mix of tropical and subtropical climates, it enjoys abundant sunlight and warmth, creating the perfect sanctuary for a wide variety of wildlife.

In recent years, the Dehong Prefecture government has implemented a series of biodiversity conservation initiatives aimed at establishing a biodiversity monitoring network and a relatively stable spatial conservation framework for the region. 

These initiatives set specific targets for 2025, including achieving a forest coverage rate of 72.5 percent, an overall grassland vegetation coverage of 80 percent, a wetland protection rate of 60 percent, a conservation rate of 92 percent for key protected wildlife species, and a conservation rate of 95 percent for key protected plant species.

Due to the current conservation efforts by all levels of government, animals of all sizes – from large mammals to tiny insects – now have an environment where they can thrive.
