At the WTT Champions Montpellier, China's Liang Jingkun and Xiang Peng advanced to the second round in the men's singles. 

Second seed Liang survived a scare, beating Jules Rolland of France in a five-game thriller after being two games up. Liang won the first two games 11-7, 15-13, but in the third game, Rolland was fueled by the cheers of home crowd, and won it 11-7. 

In the fourth game, the Chinese led 5-0 in the beginning, but at 10-7 up, he had to concede the game 12-10 after losing three game points. But Liang kept his composure to win the last game 11-5, and set up his next match with Japan's Shunsuke Togami in the round of 16. 

In other action, China's Xiang Peng defeated Kazakhstan's Kirill Gerassimenko in straight games. The 21-year-old Chinese proved himself a rising star when he reached the WTT China Smash semifinals earlier this month, beating France's Felix Lebrun and Sweden's Truls Moregard, who both medaled at the Paris Olympics. 

Xiang won the first two games 11-5, 11-5, and the third 11-9 when the Kazakh hit wide. Xiang will next meet the winner of  French derby between Lebrun and Simon Gauzy.
