Over 100 countries voiced their support for China's stance and opposed the politicization of human rights at the Third Committee of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York on Tuesday.

In response to the groundless accusations on China's human rights situation made by a few Western countries, Ambassador Fu Cong, China's permanent representative to the UN, expressed firm opposition to and total rejection of the untrue accusations made by these countries, saying that the human rights situation that most needs the attention of the meeting is undoubtedly Gaza.

The fact that over 100 member states voiced their support for China's just position demonstrates what the international community truly stands for and shows that the attempt of a handful of Western countries, including Australia and the U.S., to resort to political manipulation under the pretext of human rights has failed.

On behalf of 80 countries, Pakistan delivered a joint statement, pointing out that issues related to Xinjiang and Xizang are China's internal affairs. They spoke against the interference in China's internal affairs under the pretext of human rights and stood for abiding by the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and respecting the right of people of each state to choose independently the path for development fit for their national conditions.

Another 20 plus countries, by making statements either individually or collectively, expressed support for China and opposition to politicizing human rights issues and applying double standards.

Fu also made a joint statement on behalf of 28 countries, denouncing the indiscriminate use of unilateral coercive measures by some Western countries, underscoring that unilateral coercive measures violate the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and international law; cause damaging consequences to the sanctioned countries and their peoples; and seriously violate and deprive them of all human rights, including the right to health and life. He called for immediate and complete cancellation.

The Third Committee of the UN General Assembly is the main committee dealing with human rights and social development.

Since 2019, the U.S. and a few other Western countries have repeatedly used human rights issues to attack and smear China, which has been resolutely opposed by the vast majority of countries and has all ended in failure.
