Shanghai Shenhua from Chinese Super League (CSL) beat Kawasaki Frontale of the J1 League 2-0 in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League Elite game in east China's Shanghai Municipality on Wednesday.
The visitors' striker Marcio was sent off with a straight red card by the referee for a stamp on Amadou. Shanghai made good use of their one man advantage. In the 23rd minute, Wang Haijian broke into the box and took a shot around the penalty arc. The ball bounced off a defender into the net, giving the home team a 1-0 lead.
Though Shanghai continued to create a series of chances to score in the last of the first half, they failed to extend their lead. Several of Kawasaki's attacks were threatening and Asahi Sasaki's long shot hit the post after it was touched away by goalkeeper Bao Yaxiong's first.
Shanghai's second goal came during injury time when Andre Luis was brought down in the penalty area, earning his side a spot kick. He seized the opportunity and netted for the home team, which secured their second win at the tournament as they rose to fourth in the East Region.
Vissel Kobe of the J1 League defeated Ulsan HD from the K League 1 2-0 on the road on the same day. Taisei Miyashiro contributed both goals for the visitors in the 48th and 73rd minutes. Kobe currently sits second place in the East Region with two wins and one draw while Ulsan struggles at the bottom with three straight losses.
