In northwest China's Gansu Province, Linxia Hui Autonomous Prefecture is home to many Majiayao cultural relics with beautifully colored ceramics dating back over 5,000 years. The area is known as the "hometown of painted pottery."

Linxia is also one of the earliest regions in China to conduct archaeological work, with numerous prehistoric sites scattered throughout.

Cultural relics representing different cultural types have been unearthed at Linxia.

Seven distinct cultures, including the Banshan and Bianjialin types of the Majiayao culture, as well as the Qijia culture, were first discovered in Linxia and named after local areas. This highlights Linxia's important role in the development of China's painted pottery culture.
