Iran's foreign ministry on Saturday condemned "in the strongest terms" the Israeli air strikes on Iranian military targets, saying it's "entitled and obligated to defend itself against external aggressive acts."
Calling the Israeli attack a blatant violation of international law and the United Nations Charter, the ministry said in a statement that Tehran "recognizes its responsibilities towards regional peace and security."
It also called "continuation of occupation, illegal actions, and crimes" conducted by Israel with military and political support from the United States and certain other Western countries "the main cause of tension and insecurity in the region."
Two Iranian soldiers were killed in the Israeli strike on the country earlier in the day, Iran's army confirmed on Saturday.
