Talks to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip resumed in Doha, Qatar, on Sunday, though with little expectation of substantive progress. Representatives from Qatar, Egypt, the United States and Israel participated in the talks. However, the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) did not send any representative.

Egypt's president says his country has proposed a two-day ceasefire between Israel and Hamas during which four hostages held in Gaza would be freed.

Despite the support of most Israeli ministers for the Egyptian proposal, Tel Aviv rejected the deal due to opposition from Netanyahu, who emphasized that "negotiations will take place only under fire," according to Israel's Channel 12.
