"Grand Celebration in China," by Ella Zhang /Provided to CGTN by artist and guardian
Depicting two children dressed in traditional hanfu costume, holding a red lantern and a piece of red paper written with character "fu," which means "good fortune," in Chinese, 10-year-old Ella Zhang from the United States captures her impression of lively Chinese festivals in her painting "Grand Celebration in China." Other Chinese festive elements, such as a dancing dragon, Kongming lanterns, fireworks, a full moon and a rabbit are also added in her work to highlight the theme.
Ella's work was inspired by her trip to China this summer with her parents. She visited the Great Wall, the Yellow River, Mount Tai and the Forbidden City. But what impressed her most was "how Chinese people celebrate the holidays with special clothes and food," wrote Ella to CGTN, "I wanted to use my drawing to reflect the grand celebration of China."
Judges' opinions:
The work is centered on two children in traditional costume, holding a red lantern and a piece of red paper with character "fu" to welcome the Spring Festival. They are standing in front of a white wall, an image of a dragon flying out of the boy’s lantern into the high sky, surrounded by pavilions, seas of cloud, blooming flowers and Kongming lanterns, forming a festive, majestic scene with strong color contrast.
Congratulations to Ella for winning the 1st Prize in the "China Through My Eyes" Global Children's Art Project!
