Today is World Psoriasis Day, a day to raise awareness of the chronic disease affecting an estimated 125 million people globally, including around 7 million in China. Psoriasis is more than just a skin condition; it can lead to complications such as psoriatic arthritis, cardiovascular diseases and mental health issues.

In an interview with CGTN, Wang Gang, a professor at Xijing Hospital of the Air Force Medical University and an expert on skincare, explained that genetics play a significant role in psoriasis. Caucasians have the highest incidence rate of the disease, particularly in colder regions like Northern Europe. Environmental factors, such as temperature and humidity, affect the disease's severity, with cold and dry conditions often leading to flare-ups. Habits like smoking and drinking are additional risk factors.

Despite these challenges, modern treatments, including targeted therapies, have significantly improved patients' quality of life, enabling them to live just like anyone else. However, Wang emphasized the importance of standardized medical care, warning against unproven folk remedies that can lead to severe complications.
