Han Xiaodong is an associate professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), a leading institution for higher education in fine arts in China, where he specializes in sculpture and public art. Han holds bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees from CAFA and has been teaching there since 2007. He previously worked at the academy's Major Historical Themes Art Creation Center and now oversees the Material Studio in the Mural Painting Department of the School of Plastic Arts.
He is a member of both the China Sculpture Institute and the Chinese Urban Sculpture Artists Association.
Han's notable works include the statue of Yuan Longping, the "Father of Hybrid Rice," part of the National Project of Artworks on Major Historical Themes. He also created two commemorative sculptures titled "Ode to Peace" that are displayed respectively at the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and at the camp of the Chinese peacekeeping troops in Lebanon for the United Nations Interim Force.
