"La Mian," by 7-year-old Kennard Hanzel Chandra from Indonesia, wins the First Prize in "China Through My Eyes" Global Children's Art Project. /Provided to CGTN by artist and guardian
Titled "La Mian," this vibrant piece, inspired by Kennard Hanzel Chandra's favorite Chinese dish, highlights the creativity of this 7-year-old from Indonesia. Using recycled newspapers, poster paint, pastels, and string, Kennard brings these traditional Chinese hand-pulled noodles to life. In his eyes, China is a magical land known for its delicious food, like lamian noodles, and its rich cultural heritage. The young artist dreams of one day visiting China to experience its culture firsthand.
Judges' opinions:
This piece is one of the most original entries in the competition. It portrays the theme of traditional Chinese food culture by skillfully incorporating uniquely Chinese visual symbols such as lanterns, lamian noodles, and the patterns on the tablecloth. The depiction of the main character is lively, with smooth lines that are free and unrestrained, not following a fixed pattern. The composition is bold and unconstrained, with striking color contrasts, showing a strong sense of expressiveness. The artistic expression of the painting is pure and direct.
Congratulations to Kennard for winning the First Prize in the "China Through My Eyes" Global Children's Art Project!
