This year's Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting will be held in Peru. China has been Peru's largest trading partner and export market for 10 consecutive years. In 2019, China and Peru signed a memorandum of understanding on Belt and Road cooperation. In October 2024, Chinese companies completed the construction of the main project of the Peruvian Chancay Tunnel, which is of great significance to the Chancay Port. The project is expected to boost local economic development and employment, and become a new channel between Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region.

CGTN Stringer talked to several Peruvians about their expectations for this year's APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting and China-Peru cooperation. A resident named Katherine Torres said she expects this year's APEC to address the issue of investments and the opportunities they will provide. Another resident, Karla Santuyomarca, said the much-anticipated Chancay project is great for Peru's economy as it will save time, increase efficiency and bring new opportunities to Peru.
