Botswana's opposition Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) alliance has won a majority in parliament in the general election and can form a government, the election authority announced on Friday.
"The UDC has reached the minimum requirement to be declared the next government," Independent Electoral Commission spokesperson Osupile Maroba told AFP, adding that the UDC took more than 31 seats, which would make its leader Duma Boko president-elect.
