The never-ending race /CGTN
The 2024 U.S. presidential race has entered its final stretch, with Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and her Republican rival Donald Trump running neck and neck in the polls. Both camps are throwing mud at each other to discredit each other and win more votes.
A mudslinging match /CGTN
Looking back at American presidential election history, candidates attacking each other and resorting to mudslinging is common. From political records to personal lives, all aspects of their lives may be exposed to the public, even private matters. To some extent, mudslinging is effective in uncovering maladies and curbing corruption. However, in today's climate of escalating partisan conflicts and polarized politics—where Democrats and Republicans are clashing on more issues than ever—mudslinging has increasingly turned the presidential race into a farce of mutual attacks.
To mute or not to mute — that is the question /CGTN
Electoral politics is a cornerstone of Western democracy and should serve the electorate. However, as the candidates and their teams become fixated on trivialities like whether to keep microphones on during televised debates, it's clear they have prioritized personal and partisan interests over the economic issues that voters care about most. How, then, can they be trusted to serve the people?
