China has decided to file a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) over the EU's final anti-subsidy measures targeting Chinese electric vehicles, according to a spokesperson from the Ministry of Commerce on Monday.
The spokesperson emphasized that this step aims to protect the development interests of the EV industry and promote global cooperation on green transformation.
Despite China's earlier appeal to the WTO regarding the EU's initial anti-subsidy measures, the spokesperson expressed regret that the EU proceeded with imposing high countervailing duties on Chinese EVs. This action was taken despite objections from EU member state governments, industry stakeholders and the public.
China firmly opposes the EU's decision, the spokesperson said, arguing that the measures lack factual and legal basis, violate WTO rules, and represent an abuse of trade remedy measures under the guise of countervailing actions, amounting to trade protectionism.
China calls on the EU to acknowledge its errors, promptly correct these unlawful practices, and work together to safeguard the stability of the global EV industry and supply chain, as well as the broader economic and trade relations between China and the EU.
