China's first offshore dual-two desulfurization system, installed on the Haikui No. 1 – the first cylindrical floating oil-gas production, storage and offloading (FPSO) facility in Asia – will start operation in mid-December. Haikui No. 1, independently developed by China, is located in a sea area of the Liuhua Oilfield in the Pearl River Mouth Basin, with a depth of more than 320 meters. This area is known for its high sulfur content in the associated gas, with a maximum of 1.15 percent. The high concentration of hydrogen sulfide gas not only corrodes metal pipelines and instruments and affects the processing of oil products but also pollutes the environment and poses risks to human safety.
