At the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Italian President Sergio Mattarella will pay a state visit to China from November 7 to 12, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced on Tuesday.

Detailing the visit at a regular press briefing, Mao Ning, spokesperson for the Ministry, said President Xi will hold talks with Mattarella to draw a blueprint for the future development of China-Italy relations.

Premier Li Qiang and Chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee Zhao Leji will also meet with the Italian president separately, she added.

As both major civilizations and important economies in the world, friendly cooperation between China and Italy has a profound public opinion foundation and serves the common interests of both sides, which is conductive to promoting the sound development of China-Europe relations and world stability and prosperity, Mao said.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Italy comprehensive strategic partnership, Mao said, adding that China is ready to work with Italy to further mutual political trust, expand practical cooperation and people-to-people exchanges, and advance mutual learning between civilizations.
