World No. 1 Wang Chuqin of China beat Shunsuke Togami of Japan 12-10, 11-3, 16-14 in the men's singles first round at the World Table Tennis (WTT) Champions Frankfurt in Frankfurt, Germany, on Monday.

Togami caused Wang a lot of trouble in the first game with his signature quick attacks, but Wang responded with a solid performance and tied the score at 9-9, before eventually clinching the game and taking a 1-0 lead.

Wang's sharp serves proved to be his best weapon against Togami in the second game, earning him a quick win. The third was the closest game, as both players had chances to come out on top. Togami launched a series of forehand attacks while trailing 14-13, but Wang triumphed in the end to secure the 3-0 victory. He will face Anton Kallberg of Sweden in the round of 16.

The women's top seed, Wang Manyu of China, defeated Orawan Paranang of Thailand 11-9, 11-5, 11-13, 11-6 to advance to the last 16.

Wang controlled the rhythm in the first two games, en route to easy wins. Paranang picked up the pace in the third game and forced Wang into making several errors. The Thai pulled a game back, but China's Wang responded immediately and overcame multiple sharp plays by Paranang to put away the fourth game and wrap up the match.

Wang will meet Joo Cheon-hui of South Korea in the next round.
