Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday congratulated Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu on his election as president of Fiji.
In his congratulatory message, Xi noted that Fiji was the first Pacific island country to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China.
He highlighted that since the establishment of diplomatic ties 49 years ago, the two countries have made substantial progress in their relations, enhancing the well-being of both peoples and promoting peace, stability and development in the region and beyond.
Xi emphasized his commitment to the development of China-Fiji relations and expressed readiness to work with Lalabalavu to promote the sustained, sound and steady growth of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, aiming to bring more benefits to their peoples.
