China and the European Union are in intensive consultations on details of price commitments regarding Chinese electronic vehicles (EVs), said a spokesperson for the Chinese Commerce Ministry on Thursday.
He Yongqian made the remarks at a press conference in response to a question regarding the EU's imposition of tariffs on EVs from China.
He said the EU technical team arrived in Beijing on November 2.
"Currently, both parties are engaged in intensive negotiations on the specific details of the price commitments, following the principles of pragmatism and balance," she said.
In an October 25 video call, Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao and European Commission Executive Vice President and Trade Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis reaffirmed their political will to resolve differences through dialogue and clarified that both sides will continue to use price commitments as a solution to the EU's anti-subsidy case against Chinese EVs.
On October 29, the EU said it had decided to impose definitive countervailing duties of up to 35.3 percent on EVs from China for five years but said it would continue to conduct consultations with China on the price commitments.
On November 4, China said it appealed to the World Trade Organization against the EU's final ruling of the countervailing measures.
