Six Chinese paddlers make WTT Champions Frankfurt quarterfinals

Six Chinese players, five on the women's side and one in the men's event, have advanced to the quarterfinals at the World Table Tennis (WTT) Champions Frankfurt in Frankfurt, Germany.

Top-seeded Wang Manyu knocked out Joo Cheon-hui of South Korea 11-7, 9-11, 11-8, 11-8 in the women's singles competition. She will next face her compatriot Qian Tianyi who swept over No. 5 seed, Mima Ito of Japan, 11-3, 11-1, 12-10.

"I haven't played Qian for a long time," Wang told reporters after the match. "She has been in a great form and performing well recently. I must prepare myself for a tough battle."

Wildcard player He Zhuojia upset sixth seed Cheng I-Ching of Chinese Taipei 11-4, 11-6, 12-10. She will continue to challenge seeded opponents at the tournament and Japan's No. 3 seed Miwa Harimoto will be next.

Second-seeded Wang Yidi walked over Romanian veteran Elizabeta Samara 11-6, 11-5, 11-8 in the quarterfinals. She will compete with No. 7 seed, Shin Yu-bin of South Korea, for a spot in the last four.

The fourth quarterfinal match will take place between Chinese fourth seed Chen Xingtong and Japanese eighth seed Satsuki Odo.

Lin Shidong became the only Chinese player to progress in the men's event after knocking out Benedikt Duda of Germany 11-4, 11-9, 11-7 in the last eight. The No. 2 seed will play Sora Matsushima of Japan next.
