This year's China International Import Expo (CIIE) is being held in Shanghai from November 5 to 10. 152 countries, regions and international organizations are participating in the exhibition, with France, Malaysia, Nicaragua, Saudi Arabia, Tanzania and Uzbekistan serving as guests of honor.

According to data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration, in 2023, the top five U.S. crude oil exports by countries were the Netherlands, China, South Korea, Canada and the UK. The average daily crude oil export from the U.S. to China in the year was 452,000 barrels, more than double the import volume in 2022. However, according to data released by the General Administration of Customs of China, although crude oil imports from the U.S. have reached more than a decadal high, the country only ranked tenth in China's imported crude oil sources in 2023, far lower than the top three countries, Russia, Saudi Arabia and Iraq.

CGTN Stringer interviewed residents of New York, inviting them to guess what rank China held among among U.S. crude oil export destinations in 2023, which American products are popular among Chinese consumers, and their expectations for trade cooperation between the two countries. One interviewee expressed hope for increased cooperation between the two countries in the field of technology patents to promote mutual technological innovation and talent exchanges. Another interviewee hoped for the removal of tariff barriers by the U.S. to benefit both American and Chinese citizens.
