The Beijing Ducks defeated the Qingdao Eagles 81-76 in their first game at the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) Club Cup that tipped off in Qingdao, east China's Shandong Province, on Tuesday.

Beijing's head coach Xu Limin used a 11-player rotation against Qingdao in absence of Zeng Fanbo and other key players. Nine of them played over 10 minutes on the court and nine contributed to scoring.

Beijing's three foreign players, Eugene German, Richard Solomon and Anunwa Omot all made significant contributions to their team's victory in the tournament opener. German's penetrations, Omot's three-point shooting and Solomn's charging of the rim enabled Beijing to lead 24-22 after the first quarter.

Qingdao's American power forward Jordan Mickey carried the hosts offensively in the second quarter by making a series of tough shots. His side cut their deficit to one point, 43-42, before the halftime break. Then in the third quarter, Lyu Junhu knocked down three triples for Qingdao while Beijing struggled to make shots anywhere on the floor. Qingdao was looking at a 12-point lead at maximum, 66-54, at home. Though Zhai Xiaochuan and German worked hard for Beijing to come back, they still trailed by 10 points, 68-58 after this quarter.

The visitors began the fourth quarter with a 10-4 run and outscored the opponents by 15 points in this quarter. Meanwhile, Qingdao kept throwing bricks, getting no more than eight. Mickey contributed game-high 28 points for the hosts, but his efforts failed to reverse the situation.
