The launching ceremony for the Portuguese edition of Chinese President Xi Jinping's book on poverty relief "Up and Out of Poverty" was held in Brazil's Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday.
More than 300 representatives from China and Brazil attended the launch ceremony and a subsequent seminar on state governance.
Marcio Pochmann, president of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, pointed out the book brings in a concrete way in fighting poverty and offers an experience that can be a reference to the world.
Evandro Menezes de Carvalho, Brazilian professor of international law, said "the publishing of this book in Brazil brings to Brazil the possibility of understanding how Chinese President Xi Jinping, when he was a leader in a small city in Fujian Province, worked with the people there to find solutions to alleviate poverty in that region."
"It is very interesting, because I think this book brings a series of experiences and wisdom that can greatly inspire other countries, including Brazil, that face similar poverty situation."
"The importance of this book is a milestone for us to be able to reflect on the poverty problems that we still have to face today," said Henrique Nobrega, president of the Brazil-China Friendship Association.
Stressing China is a good example for the world in reducing poverty, Nobrega said Brazil can mirror China's policies, and it can exchange experiences or technologies with China, so that it can also implement its own policies and overcome poverty.
Titled "Up and Out of Poverty," the book is comprised of Xi's speeches and articles, as well as photos, from 1988 to 1990, when he was Party chief of Ningde City in east China's Fujian Province. The book has now been published in nine foreign languages globally with Portuguese being the latest edition.
