The Fuling shale gas field in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality has produced over 70 billion cubic meters of shale gas, reducing annual carbon emissions by 12 million tonnes, which is the equivalent of planting 110 million trees. With operations starting in 2014, the Fuling shale gas field is China's sixth largest natural gas field, with its daily production reaching 20 million cubic meters. As an important gas source in the West-to-East gas transmission pipeline project, the gas field supplies natural gas to more than 70 cities along the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
