China released its "Action Plan for Early Warning Systems to Promote Climate Change Adaptation (2025-2027)" on Tuesday.
The plan was released during a high-level meeting at the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The newly released plan outlines China's commitment to supporting developing countries in enhancing their early warning capabilities and climate change adaptation.
The action plan focuses on four key areas, including sharing knowledge on climate risk assessment; building climate risk monitoring and forecasting platforms; sharing experiences in building climate-adaptive societies; and enhancing early warning capabilities in developing countries.
According to the plan, China will launch three Fengyun geostationary meteorological satellites in the next two years to provide high-frequency meteorological disaster monitoring for African, Asian and Pacific countries.
The plan also states that China will implement a South-South cooperation flagship project on early warning for climate change, providing meteorological observation equipment and cloud-based early warning systems to relevant developing countries.
Earlier, the China Meteorological Administration and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment also signed a tripartite cooperation agreement with the World Meteorological Organization to support the UN's "Early Warnings for All" initiative.
