The Festival of the Sun is one of the most important festivals in Peru. The grand celebration recreates the time when the ancient Incas thanked the sun god for giving the earth light and warmth and prayed for a good harvest in the coming year. During the festival, people parade around the plaza in colorful costumes, singing and dancing.
