Joseph Cruz Soriano is a Peruvian sinologist with a particular interest in martial arts, lion dance and calligraphy. He began learning Chinese at a young age and later developed a strong passion for Chinese culture, including the Confucian classics. For many years, Joseph has devoted himself to studying the I Ching, or the "Book of Changes," and has translated it into Spanish for publication. He noted that Peru and China share a deep friendship and common cultural values. He also expressed his delight at seeing more young Peruvians taking the opportunity to learn Chinese at Confucius Institutes, which he believes will further deepen exchanges between the two countries.
