A grotto dating back to the late Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534) has been discovered among the mountains in a village of Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province. It has a history of nearly 1,500 years, according to experts. With these characters carved on the grotto, the precious relic depicts ancient culture and social evolution, which offers a new chronological reference for studying ancient grottoes in China.
