Xi Jinping has, in the course of regular visits to Latin America and the Caribbean since he became Chinese president, met not only national leaders, but also numerous ordinary people. In Costa Rica, for example, he shared his experience of farming with coffee grower Marco Tulio Zamora. Apart from extending the hand of friendship, President Xi has also, through his visits, promoted economic cooperation. Testament to this are several major infrastructure projects being built in the region jointly with China.
