Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Lima, the capital of Peru, on Thursday for the 31st APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting and a state visit. The visit was made at the invitation of Peruvian President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra.
Upon his landing, Xi was welcomed by Gustavo Adrianzen, the president of the Council of Ministers, and other senior officials of Peru. Local students presented Xi with flowers and greeted him in Chinese, while honor guards lined the red carpet.
Xi delivered a written speech after the landing. He hailed the long-standing friendship between China and Peru and noted that Peru was one of the first Latin American countries to establish diplomatic ties with China.
He also highlighted the sustained development of bilateral relations in recent years, and expressed his belief that the visit would further elevate the China-Peru comprehensive strategic partnership and lead to more fruitful results in practical cooperation across a range of fields.
In addition to that, Xi shared his anticipation for the upcoming APEC leaders' meeting, stating that China is committed to working with all parties to build an open Asia-Pacific economy, promote global economic growth, and foster an Asia-Pacific community with a shared future.
As Xi traveled from the airport to the hotel, he was greeted by Chinese expatriates, Chinese institutions, students, and Peruvians along the streets, waving both Chinese and Peruvian flags.
